This week I had the opportunity to attend the local IBM Employee Charitable Contribution Campaign (ECCC) kickoff at the IBM office in Coppell, TX.  As I watched my best friend give an amazingly impassioned speech about ALS (he was diagnosed 4 weeks ago), I began to think about all of the things that our partners do to help others.

It’s timely that I author this one from Las Vegas for a multitude of reasons. The obvious one is Casino’s. In a way, they were the originators of finding ways to detect and prevent hackers. But the real reason it’s timely is that I am at the Nutanix Sales Kickoff “Xcelerate FY2019”.

The Software Defined Evolution

I can remember 15 years ago when I first learned about the IBM San Volume Controller (SVC), and thinking to myself, why is every hardware company not thinking this way. The SVC simply made the hardware irrelevant in your storage environment by delivering a software-defined model that allows you to manage a heterogeneous storage environment through a single pane of glass.

Just before heading off with the family to Galveston over Memorial weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the Splunk Live Dallas event! These events are always great to hear how other companies are utilizing splunk and, of course, learn from Splunk experts about solving security challenges, taking advantage of Artificial Intelligence in Big Data, and improving incident response.

This year, the team here at Cima Solutions Group has seen much more interest in our services and solutions from many of the Independent School Districts (ISDs) throughout Texas. The ISDs are looking for ways to better secure access both in and out of their internal networks as well as secure and protect data.

Everything your business does creates data, and the development of new technologies such as hybrid cloud and the Internet of Things will only increase the amount of data you create. The real question is, what is your company doing with all that data?
